Magazine Advert draft

Our second ancillary task was to create a magazine advert. Below is both a one word logo print of the band's name. This is mainly for if B.I.T.E were to become a very popular because then people would instantly identify the bands logo due to their popularity. The second draft is just a little picture showing a more informative magazine advert. The Steel Panther band members will turn out to be the actual band members in our music video in the final ancillary task.

Draft of digipack

As part of our Ancillary task we will be asked to create a magazine advert and a digipack both for our chosen song/music video. This is to help promote the band. As partof our agreement with the band who's song we have chosen we have to include their logo within the digipack and magazine advert. This is not a problem though as the logo is very good looking. Jamie's has made a draft for the digipack and it shows someones bottom half with the bands logo on it below.

Examples of some problems on the first shoot day

On the first shoot day we encountered a few problems that forced us to really up our game and make sure that everything was perfect for the second shoot day. One of the biggest problems though was the fact that a lot of camera shots were out of focus and we only found this out when we arrived back at school to examine the footage. This meant that next time we used the camera on the second day we needed to use manual focus instead of auto focus as it would stop the camera going out of focus so often due to the movement of the bands actions. An example video of some of the out of focus camera shots are shown below and you can clearly identify that it was unusable in our main video as it would look unprofessional and sloppy.

This first video above was a very good camera shot because it was a nice pan of the guitar and focused on the suitable parts of the guitar as the song was playing. The two problems with this shot though was that it occasionally went out of focus and the shot also showed the sides of the staqge which we did not want as the curtain covers did not cover the sides. We did not want the sidee of the stage in the shot as it had mirrors and too colourful wallpapers for the likes f our genre. This shot taught us to tightly frame the shots better on the second day of shooting.

This shot was also quite a good shot but yet again the shot went out of focus and the roof was showing which we did not want. This was because the only background we wanted was of the red curtain covers. This is to help make the whole shot more realistic and appropiate.

This sot was a good idea for a shot but we did not use the lighting as well as we could have. This prevented us from getting a really clear shot and resulted in a grainy and dark shot.

Changes to the 2nd shooting day

On the first day of filming we had discovered that most of the footage we filmed was out of focus so this meant doing a second day of filming was definitely on the agenda. We had to change quite a few things though. For example instead of having mikey on the bass and will on the drums we had to get Mark on the drums and Zander on the bass. This was because the other two members were unavailable because of school and job commitments. This was good in a way though as it meant we could even out the equipment more due to Mark being able to drive. This meant that Rhys did not have to take two journey's to and from Stamford. I feel that the 2nd filming day gave us better preparation this time round as it helped us to plan better with the extra time we had.

This process is repeated again for the Tuesday after this. Hopefully the Shooting day schedule goes all according to plan and we get some good footage. After tuesday's shoot day we have realised that we will have to film the footage again in a more specific way as a lot of the footage from the first week was out of focus. So below is the shooting day schedule for the second week after we had to change two members of the band due to them being unavailable.

Deconstruction of our song's lyrics

Below is a deconstruction of our chosen song's lyrics. I have picked out some important lines that may refer or mean something behind the words. For example some common words used are "Rock Pride".

Our Music Video Location

Above is a picture of the Stamford Arts Centre in Stamford and this is our location that we are using to film our Music video. We are using a room called the ball room within the complex as it is a room which has a stage in it. It is not the biggest of stages but it will be suitable for our video. We really wanted a stage because it was realistic to the genre we have chosen. This is because the Glam Rock genre is known for it's great live and on stage performances that make them who they are. The stage will really emphasis the fact that we are filming a music video as our narrative is concentrated on the band filming the music video being the performance side. We have been looking for a warehouse/stage for a while now but we have managed to get this place due to it's great prices. For example the places we have tried to hire previously including the likes of the voodoo lounge and the MET lounge have all given us prices that are too high for ourselves whereas the Stamford Arts Centre are offering us 2 days of filming for the price of £40. Below we have two photos of how the place will look inside the ball room.

When we arrived at the Stamford arts centre we were very impressed with the location itself as they had decent lighting, lots of space and a good sized stage. It was now our job to set everything up and prepare for the shoot. We had to ensure that the lighting was right, the actors had the right costumes on and the equiopment was in the right places. Below are 2 pictures of the hall when we arrived before the equipment was set up.

Time lapse example

To film our music video we only have two days so this means that we need to get everything right on those two days to ensure that everything goes according to plan. For example we need to make sure that the lighting, mise-en-scene, camera work and more are all set up correctly. If we were to use any special techniques as well like stop motion or a time lapse then this may need some examples from other bands to see if they are appropriate before we perform the actual filming. In our video we are going to perform a time lapse of supposed fans of the band setting up the bands equipment ready for a concert type performance. This will be a long time lapse so it is important that we look at other bands that have used time lapses to see if they work for our chosen song or not. Below is an example of a time lapse within the music video called "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue. As you can see in the music video the time lapse works very well and so this gives us an indication that the time lapse in our music video will work just as well especially as Motley Crue are from a similar genre to our chosen song "Rock Pride". The closest similar genre being metal Glam.

Costume plans

In our music video we wanted the costumes to be very conventional to the costumes used in the other Glam Rock genre songs. For example the Glam Rock genre band Steel Panther use outrageous costumes that are very colourful, eccentric and sometimes womanly. Some clothing examples can include tight leggings, Spandex and more. Below is a picture of the band Steel Panther and examples of what they wear as part of their identity.

So after looking and analysing bands like Steel Panther we went for something very similar in terms of costume for our music video. You can see this below with individual photos of all the band members.

First we have Mark who is the Drummer and he is dressed up in mostly black clothing with a black wig. He also has real tattoos so this kind of goes well without having to put any fake ones on. Next is Zander the Bassist who is wearing jeans, a hat, partly scruffy clothes and a ginger wig. Next is Joel the Guitarist and he is wearing a black wig with tight jeans, a scarf hanging out of his trousers, Tattoo sleeves and some more little things to help make the band a realistic Glam Rock band. Finally is Jamie who has a Blonde wig on with tattoo sleeves, leopard print leggings and a scarf hanging out of the leggings. So as you can see we have stuck to the typical conventions of the Glam Rock genre which will clearly identify our chosen Genre.

Contact with our chosen band for our song

To start off with we found it difficult to find the perfect song for our music video but in the end we found the perfect song that mixes in with the chosen genre we wanted to use. That song ended up to be the band B.I.T.E 's song called Rock Pride. Two of our members being Joel and Jamie managed to come across this song on you tube when typing in unsigned Glam Rock songs. So after deciding to use this song, Jamie and Joel contacted the band B.I.T.E and this was the email they sent.

After contacting the band Jamie and Joel came back saying that the band were happy for us to make a music video with their song as long as we gave credit to the band themselves when we decide to put the video on you tube. We also had include their band logos into our ancillary CD cover task but this was no problem for us.
